Year 9 Assessment Guide 2019
IB MYP YEAR 9 – PERSONAL PROJECT continued
REQUIREMENTS OF THE PERSONAL PROJECT Purpose: the IBO places great importance on the expression of the student’s personality and understanding as measured by means of the Personal Project. The Personal Project is a requirement for all MYP schools, whether or not they request grades validated by the IBO. Timing: the Personal Project offers students a great deal of flexibility and many opportunities for differentiation of learning and expression according to their individual needs. It will be undertaken during Semester Two of Year 9 and Semester One of Year 10, with final submission in Term 3 of Year 10. Range: the Personal Project must not form part of the coursework for any subject: it must provide an opportunity for students to select a topic or theme about which they are enthusiastic, and to show commitment to the completion of their own project. the Personal Project encourages students to use a combination of the skills developed in a variety of subjects and through Approaches To Learning. It must not be limited to one specific discipline but must be inspired by, and focused on, topics and issues focused through one Global Context to show the student’s understanding of its relevance to our common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet. Most of the work involved in the Personal Project will be done outside class time. Supervision: each student receives direct supervision from their House tutor, who can provide appropriate guidance and confirm the authenticity of the work submitted. Although the supervisor does not need any specialist knowledge in the area selected by the student, outside help may be requested in some instances. Planning: in all cases, students should be guided in the planning, research and completion of their projects. They will receive formative feedback on their work from their House tutor and be encouraged to test and develop their own ideas and to respect established deadlines. Website : All students are given access to the College’s Personal Project website. They will use the website as an official source of information and support, to register their project and to complete their compulsory online process journal. Compulsory Moderation: The official validation of personal project grades is mandatory for all MYP schools ending in Year 10. This means your project will be moderated against all MYP Year 10 students around the world. Moderation occurs in October of Year 10 with official Personal Project IB results and grades, and an International Personal Project certificate then available to students in February of Year 11 . College Requirements: Students are required to pass their Personal Project in order to receive the ‘Middle Years Programme Completion Certificate” at their Year 10 Scholars’ Day Ceremony.
