CONCEPTS
GLOBAL CONTEXT Identities and relationships
STATEMENT OF INQUIRY Relationships between the various representations of numbers help us to quantify the world around us.
ASSESSMENT
Life Related (Criteria B, D) Investigation (Criteria B)
Consumer Arithmetic – Applications include profit and loss, commission and taxation (Chapter 3) Proportion – Ratios and direct proportion (Chapter 2) Solve problems involving profit and loss, with and without digital technologies. Solve a range of problems involving rates and ratios, with and without digital technologies. Solve problems involving direct proportion. Explore the relationship between graphs and equations corresponding to simple rate problems. Measurement – Perimeter, area, surface area and volume (Chapter 12) Calculate the areas of composite shapes. Calculate the surface area and volume of cylinders and solve related problems. Solve problems involving the surface area of right prisms. Probability- Compound, dependent and independent events; tree and Venn diagrams (Chapter 16) List all outcomes for two-step chance experiments, both with and without replacement using tree diagrams or arrays. Assign probabilities to outcomes and determine probabilities of events.

Orientation in Space and Time
Quantifying the size of 1, 2 and 3 dimensional objects in our environment by modelling the perimeter, area and volume of multiple shapes and solids with appropriate rules and formulae. Establishing patterns in the natural world can help in
