We are constantly in a process of constructing and deconstructing monuments to the things we value in society.
All Criteria will be assessed: A. Knowing and Understanding
Students will have the opportunity to use a variety of approaches to using sculptural media and techniques to produce an art piece or pieces aimed at conveying their ideas about the things we value in society. The final piece could be in the form of a functional item such as vase, pencil holder, broach etc. or may be purely an ornamental sculptural piece. Students will consider questions such as: Why do we create monuments? How have monuments been used in the past to reflect what we value as a society? How can monuments unite and alienate, empower and disenfranchise people? Is there a place for monumental art in the 21st century?
