Systems Models Processes
The model of the Scientific Method provides a valid and reliable process for systematic inquiry.
Unit 1: Systems are needed with working with Scientific Data • Questioning and researching • Variables and hypotheses • Designing and implementing an investigation

Scientific and Technical Innovation
• Data collection and analysis • Discussing and concluding • Evaluating and improving methodology
ONE
Systems Balance Function
Unit 2: Systems of the Human Body • Microscopes – making things bigger. • Examining the building blocks of life • Body systems – digestion; breathing and respiration; circulation; excretory system.
The body systems that function to preserve a balance in our bodies contribute to our health and well- being. Models of atoms are used to demonstrate patterns of change through the exploration of basic chemical laws and processes. Rocks, their formation and properties, are explored through an examination of the rock cycle and its consequences in the natural environment.
Identities and Relationships
Change Patterns Models
Unit 3: Patterns in Substances • Structure of atoms • Elements, compounds and mixtures
Scientific and Technical Innovation Globalisation and Sustainability
Global Interactions Environment Consequences
Unit 4: Global Interactions between Natural Resources and Human Impact • Understanding rocks • Classifying rocks • The rock cycle • Underground resources Unit 5: Change of State and Sustainability of Energy Resources • Energy around you • Energy in action • Energy efficient design Unit 6: Models of Physical and Chemical Change • When substances change. • Understanding physical change. • Chemical change. Unit 7: Systems and Functions of the Reproductive System • Reproduction – sexual and asexual • The human reproductive system • Pregnancy and birth • Consequences and choices
Change Energy Environment Transfer
Energy transfer and conservation in power production can affect the environment.
Globalisation and Sustainability
Change Model Form
To explore the change from one physical state to another in the natural world using the kinetic particle theory to distinguish physical change from chemical change. The reproduction of all living organisms can occur through the natural interaction of organisms and their highly specialised systems; these can be monitored through scientific and technical innovation based on the knowledge of the functions of the reproductive organs and biological processes involved.
