Government by AI

hlt002

Premise 2 A : AI always makes rational decision.

Conclusion A : AIs are suitable leaders.

My methodology is twofold. First, as Premise 2 A is an established supposition, this essay will

mainly evaluate Premise 1 A using the theory of Plato and Nietzsche. Plato argues that

rationality is the necessary and sufficient condition of achieving the Good and consequently of

good leadership. By contrast, Nietzsche argues that rationality is insufficient, and irrationality

is necessary in human lives and hence in good leadership. For critical evaluation of Plato and

Nietzsche, I will also use Aristotle, George Santayana and Immanuel Kant.

Second, I will use three hypothetical governmental scenarios as criteria to assess Plato’s and

Nietzsche’s theorie s. The scenarios are on the prevalent issues of wealth distribution,

information regulation and occupation arrangement.

Thesis – the necessity that excludes AI from governing

The philosophical conundrum is whether a government decision maker by necessity must be

human or is it sufficient that the entity be a rational thinker. I conclude by rejecting Plato’s

view for impracticality. Instead, I assert that by improving Nietzsche’s theories through

recognizing the equal necessity and veracity in both the rational and the irrational domains. I

claim that the ontological logical and emotional dimensions significantly must be balanced for

governmental leadership. Hence, I disprove of Premise 2 A and deny the utility of government

by artificial intelligence.
