YEAR 11 THEATRE (IB) COURSE OUTLINE

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Theatre course is designed to enable students to experience theatre on a personal level. Students’ individual ability to be creative and imaginative, and to communicate in dramatic form, will be challenged and extended through the theoretical and practical content of the course. The aims of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Theatre course are to enable students to: • Enjoy lifelong engagement with the arts • Become informed, reflective and critical practitioners in the arts • Understand the dynamic and changing nature of the arts • Explore and value the diversity of the arts across time, place and cultures • Express ideas with confidence and competence • Develop perceptual and analytical skills • Explore theatre in a variety of contexts and understand how these contexts inform practice • Understand and engage in the process of transforming ideas into action • Develop and apply theatre production, presentation and performance skills, working both independently and collaboratively • Understand and appreciate the relationship between theory and practice

ASSESSMENT OUTLINE

In this course, students study ‘Theatre in context’, Theatre processes’ and ‘Presenting Theatre’ through a variety of assessment tasks culminating in;

• Solo Theatre Piece (Individual Performance Task) (HL) • Director’s Notebook (Individual Written Task) (SL) • Research Presentation (Individual Practical Task) (SL) • Collaborative Project (Group Performance Task) (SL)

The above assessment tasks are all due in the students’ final year of study; however, formative tasks of a similar nature will be completed throughout Year 11. Formative tasks will include the following:

• Theorist presentation (Individual Multimodal Task) • World theatre traditions research task (Individual Practical Task) • Directorial Vision (Individual Practical Task) • Play analysis and performance (Individual Written and Practical Task) • T.E.A.M analysis (Individual Written Task)
