Lech has published in Best Australian Essays, Kill Your Darlings, Meanjin, The Griffith Review, The Guardian, The Lifted Brow and the Monthly. An inaugural recipient of a Griffith Review Queensland Writers Fellowship, he also won the Queensland Premier’s Young Publishers and Writers Award. In 2019, he was awarded a Brisbane Lord Mayor’s Emerging Artist Fellowship. The singular moment of “a car full of teenagers, a bend in the road, a cleaving between possible futures”, anchors Lech Blaine’s debut novel, Car Crash . Lech will speak about the way this novel delivered him home “after spending most of his life as a man between worlds”. The relevance of this difficult and uplifting story figures prominently in the landscape of our common human condition. This is a lunch that will grab you by the heart and at the end, leave you a wiser, more empathetic and better person.
