My Santiago

These are ants,

Without backbone,

consciousness,

complex emotions

DNA, heritage.

Or have they?

(Collectively?)

Most of all,

They are smaller (the smallest),

The smaller they are,

The less they are…

And so,

I grab dishcloth,

And kill ants!

Wet dishcloth,

Death by wiping!

Rinsed in sink,

A job well done,

A sense of accomplishment.

And all this before breakfast!
