My Santiago
Lunches and Hunches
Why do we lunch; In groups?
We dress, eat, drink, laugh, talk, Say things we may regret, Later, (when one is more oneself),
And perform to all present, Seeking approval, Love even, Being as needy as we are; Humans!
Why do we lunch In groups?
We eat, too much, Drink, too much, Say, too much And smile, just a little too much!
In fact, it is all, just too much, And at mid-point,
We walk into the toilet, And stare at this face, Now flushed And a little unfamiliar, Asking, Are we the same? (Stranger Danger) Brain? Face? Mind? Do I know you? Or you me?
It’s all a little too much, Disconcerting even, And so we splash water Over our face, And pull our three reluctant, disparate parts together,
And step out to confront The relentless onslaught, Again. Till we end this ordeal, By standing up And saying goodbye!
Walking out into the bracing air,
