Leaving – No More to Be Said

Dusk settles! Life loses the hard edge of day, And certainties lose their pith. Quiet descends on the house, as I lie, arms akimbo and stare sightless at the ceiling.

Nothing more to be said!

With bags packed, Last looks given, Farewells said and tears shed, The ties are loosened… But not cut. I no longer feel any chaos, Just a sense of finality, And a wish to get on with the thing.

My mind Scans memory banks of the mind, And selects at random, These moments, Of hands shaken, promises made, rendezvous given…

And I feel the twinges of pain, sadness, Life as I know it, Slipping out of my grasp.

The rest is yet to come…
