My Santiago
You came late
I liked to tell anyone who will listen
How you were green, like a lizard,
And a bit overbaked,
When you came – late - out of mum’s tum,
And how I fell in love with you when I saw you;
(but I tell a lie, because I had loved you these past 9 months)
Even as I read to you, you in the womb;
And in some mysterious way,
Perhaps beyond that.
But you were green nonetheless,
As you were risen ,
Up and over the protective white sheet,
Safe in the hands of the doctor;
An offering to me and your mother,
Ours to keep,
Ours to love,
Ours to grow old with;
Simply ours!
