Semper Fidelis

I sit at my desk And reach, In a moment of curiosity Across to his picture (on the funeral card) “In Memoriam” I turn it over and read on the reverse, - Semper Fidelis – Forever Faithful! His face, Strong and vibrant, Glows with health. The wellness of a man Looking at least a decade younger! His age, circa 70, But in this snapshot, He is not that!

Pictures do tell stories! This one of my father,

Immaculate in his attire – as always, Smiling that gentle, rather shy smile, One that never failed to win over the old ladies (at church) And – in truth - all manner of other people!

They would say, Usually in that sing song Sri Lankan cadence, “That Fred….he’s such a nice man, ner?”
