JSM - Edition Four
R ear V iew M irror , thank you for your time
I look back in my rear view mirror, their faces aren’t the same. They belong to the same people, they’ve kept the same name. But those faces they are changing, day by certain day. I look back in wonder, never in dismay. My children, they are growing up before my very eyes. The rear view mirror daily, reflects their changing lives. It keeps me so in touch with them, we laugh and talk and sing. I don’t miss a moment, not a god damn thing. I can see their happiness, I can see their fears. I can see their sadness, I can see their tears. I can see their joy, I can see their smiles. I can see their laughter, some days we drive for miles. I used to watch them sleeping, in their capsules while I’d drive. Sometimes just to help them sleep, so small, such precious lives. Then they started wiggling and playing with their toys. I remember how they’d fall asleep. The true parental joys. So many days I’d pop them in their PJs still asleep. To drop them off to daycare, while I did my working week. I swear to god I could drive home without even looking at the road. To watch them changing day by day, my love on overload. So many trips to the beach or the park, to ride, to play. And all the while I look at them, every single day. Years and years passing by, they’re changing all the time. In the rear view mirror I see them grow, their souls, they truly shine. They’re grown up now, not all the way, just about to hit their teens. We talk about everything, from life to death to dreams. Some days we don’t talk at all, AJ the DJ controls the scene. Other days our talks so deep, big and small stuff and in-between.
