Once again, like Dumas, Lynch utilizes Judeo-Christian tropes to establish his protagonist as God-like, thus justifying his vengeful and violent actions. Dumas’ and Lynch’s manipulation of names (tropes), causes the protagonists of the novels to be connected to the God of the Old Testament. Presenting these characters as such, the authors suggest that they are transcendent, affecting the readers' “sense of justice” (Deuteronomy 32:4), thus resulting in readers “loving” the protagonists regardless of the actions that they commit (goodreads, 2014).
