Ali Baba - Junior School Musical Programme 2022

Synopsis Open sesame and discover a treasure-trove of fun and laughter as witty writer Craig Hawes gives the timeless tale twist in this mystical musical comedy! So slip on your sandals for some sandy silliness as we take a thrilling carpet ride with Ali Baba and his crazy camel on an amazing Arabian adventure! The ancient city of Old Baghdad is in chaos. Whilst the bustling bazaar is overrun with ruthless robbers, up in the palace Sultan Pepper’s precious princess and Royal Ruby have vanished! To make matters worse, it seems the poor Sultan cannot trust his own Vizier, Mustapha Widdle, nor his mischievous monkey Booboo. So when Ali Baba discovers the hidden Cave of Wonders, secret hideout of Balthazar Bongo and his bumbling bandits, it’s down to him to save the day! But when his ravenous, tap- dancing camel Humphrey bites off more than he can chew and Ali is accused of royal robbery, his fate seems as sealed as the Cave of Wonders itself! With the sands of time rapidly running out, will Ali escape the clutches of the evil Vizier? Will he find and free the imprisoned princess? And what’s in store when Ali and Bongo finally meet… fez to fez? These mysteries and many more are revealed as we follow Ali across the dusty desert dunes to face forty filthy thieves, rescue a runaway princess, fly a magic carpet and release a genie from a bottle of ketchup! This hysterical show is filled with mysterical mayhem and a swag-bag of laughs to provide an Arabian night you’ll never forget! With colourful characters, a side-splitting script, an enchanting score of show-stopping songs and a sprinkle of sparkle from a genius genie, this magical musical is everything you could wish for!

Message from the Head of Junior School ‘Open sesame and discover a treasure-trove of fun and laughter’ as promised in the synopsis for this year’s Junior School Musical Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits , and certainly delivered by our talented cast and crew of over 100 students. Our staff and students have created this show in record time with only seven weeks of rehearsals, including a few interruptions. I could not feel more mystified by the magic of the team in their ability to do this with pizazz. I would like to thank all of the students involved – backstage crew and performers – for the time you have dedicated to attending many morning, afternoon, lunchtime and weekend rehearsals. I am proud of the commitment you have shown and your positive attitude to work with friends and make new friends to produce a great show for our community. We have all had a lot of fun along the way! Staff and students have been working together to learn lines, sing songs, choreograph dances, fine tune the craft of acting and performing, create costumes and laugh out loud. Congratulations to you all for creating the feel of an Arabian bazaar as we bring together this years’ Musical production, Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits . It is important to acknowledge the work of many Junior School staff who have contributed to this musical production, from the conception and auditions in Term Four 2021, to the rehearsals and production in Term One 2022. Many hours of staff dedication have provided an exciting opportunity for our students and staff always approach the job with relentless optimism. Thank you to our staff and volunteers – the show would not be possible without you! We are certainly not afraid to be beating our own bongo when we say that you will be entertained, laughing out loud and dancing in your seats as you are swept away on this magical carpet ride of mystical mayhem. Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits will be entertaining eager crowds on Sunday 27 March, Tuesday 29 March and Wednesday 30 March 2022. See you in the Bazaar…

Message from the Musical Team

Salam Alaikum! Peace and Greetings to you!

Your three wishes have come true! Borders are open, schools are back and prices for Arabian carpet rides have been slashed!

Let us set the scene for you as we take you on a journey, transporting you through the Bazaars of Old Baghdad where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail! Where your every wish and treasure can be found amongst our haggling traders for a shekel or two! But beware… thieves are lurking in the Secret Cave of Wonders, ready to grab an opportunity. A Princess desperate for freedom and a sneaky Vizier with his eyes on a Royal Ruby. The plot thickens like Aunt Fatima’s onion gravy and takes us on a surprise journey of good, bad and odd. With a Genie’s help, what can go wrong?! Our amazing crew of over 100 students have been more than we could have ever wished for – dedicated, committed and incredibly enthusiastic. We have been blown away with their talents, passion and energy. A huge thank you must go to Rebecca Collie who made sure we stayed on our sandy track, with sandals firmly on the ground, not letting the sands of time get the better of us! Without her support and guidance, this amazing opportunity would not be possible. Thank you to the cast, crew, production team, backstage and entire company for your hard work putting this show together. It has been a joy to watch the students develop their skills and show their dedication to this amazing production.
