APS TEAM SELECTION POLICY The Somerset House Cross Country Carnival is not an APS “selection trial”. In each event, the top 10 (2 reserves) place getters do not automatically qualify for the Somerset APS Swimming Team. We ask all parents and caregivers to remember and respect the fact that the Somerset College Head of Cross Country and Sport Co-Ordinator’s select the APS team based on many factors. Please accept that we are choosing a team based on what is fair and in the best interest of all students and the entire team. Selections are based on performance on the day and history of performance. Absent students with legitimate excuses will not be disadvantaged in selection. Educational research shows that it is best for children’s sporting, emotional, and personal development if parents/caregivers accept and support coaches in these selections. Students respond better to any selection disappointment when parent /caregivers encourage them to enjoy their chosen sport, relish being part of a team environment and do their best.
