COMPETITION RULES

Spartans must compete in enclosed running shoes. Spartans from Year 4 to Year 12 must compete with their Student ID card in their pocket, to present for recording purposes at the conclusion of the race. Headphones are not permitted to be worn whilst racing. AGE DIVISIONS Age is determined by age turned/turning within that calendar year and competitors must only compete in their respective age group. 10&U Years Born 2015 or later 14 Years Born 2011 11 Years Born 2014 15 Years Born 2010 12 Years Born 2013 16 Years Born 2009 13 Years Born 2012 17+ Years Born 2008 or earlier POINT SCORE All running will receive a point for their House. 1 st place = 50 points, 2 nd place = 49 points, 3 rd place = 48 points… 50 th place = 1 point and repeating. APS TEAM SELECTION POLICY The Somerset House Cross Country Carnival is not an APS “selection trial”. In each event, the top 10 (2 reserves) place getters do not automatically qualify for the Somerset APS Swimming Team. We ask all parents and caregivers to remember and respect the fact that the Somerset College Head of Cross Country and Sport Co-Ordinator’s select the APS team based on many factors. Please accept that we are choosing a team based on what is fair and in the best interest of all students and the entire team. Selections are based on performance on the day and history of performance. Absent students with legitimate excuses will not be disadvantaged in selection. Educational research shows that it is best for children’s sporting, emotional, and personal development if parents/caregivers accept and support coaches in these selections. Students respond better to any selection disappointment when parent /caregivers encourage them to enjoy their chosen sport, relish being part of a team environment and do their best.
