Appendix 1.1 – analysis of source 1
Using the acronym, TOMACPRU, the journal article by S W. Duffy has been analysed in
depth to demonstrate the selection of reliable sources when compiling data. The source type
is secondary data, written by S W. Duffy et al in presumably England during the pandemic.
The nature of a scientific journal article explains that the findings within that source have
been peer review before publication. The perspective this article was written in is third
person, allowing a less biased when discussing the political and economic decisions
regarding health care in the UK. Moreover, the motive for creating this article could be to
educate the wider community on the impact the delay of screening nationwide on the
individuals with undiagnosed breast cancer. The audience this source was created for was
probably other scientists as well as students who are undertaking investigations on this topic.
Further, the article expresses the ideas of projected impact on the future health of UK citizens
due to the delay in mammogram screenings, proving this source to be of use in my research
task. The reliability of this source is substantial as it is from a published scientific journal,
meaning there has been peer reviews by other scientists on this paper. Additionally, the
theory and findings presented in this source is very logical and has strong evidence to support
its claims, making this source very useful to my research. Overall, this journal article is a
very strong source which I can utilise to support my claims.
Appendix 1.2 – analysis of source 2
A second source I found to be most useful was the Oxford Press IB economics textbook. As
such, the same method of source analysis was applied. This book is an IB Economics
textbook which provided secondary data in terms that are better understood by high school
