Figure 7 demonstrates the number of SARS-CoV-2 cases from January 2020 to December
2021. Similar to the diagram of Switzerland’s number of cases per day, there is one big peak
during 2020 and an increase in number of cases towards the end of 2021. An assumption can
be made that these spikes were during Christmas as families are more eager to meet extended
family, thus increasing the amount of close contact between people within the nation. As
demonstrated by the scale on the y-axis, the number of cases is significantly higher than
Switzerland and Belgium’s but the percentage of cases compared to their population is lower
than the two countries.
