Celebrations reflect culture and heritage, and they are a part of individual and national identity. How people celebrate special events shows a sense of identities and relationships in the community. Language learning will provide an entry point into deep understanding of culture and help promote intercultural awareness. Learning two linguistic systems is advantageous for young people in terms of their cognitive development. Students will understand that creative solutions are influenced by context through an inquiry in Japan’s conservation of natural and cultural resources and how they should promote protection of their assets for the next generation.
